Privacy and safety

How we handle information, and how to use this site more safely.

Using this site safely

If someone might check your device.

  • The red Quick exit button, or the Esc key, takes you away from this site quickly. It cannot erase your browsing history or other traces on your device.
  • If possible, use a device and account the other person cannot access. Private or incognito browsing does not protect you from monitoring software or all traces of activity.
  • Some devices and accounts share browsing history and location. Changing or deleting that history may be noticed, so consider what is safest in your circumstances.
  • When you email us, use an account the other person cannot see, keep a first message brief, and tell us which times and ways of contacting you are safe.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call 999. If you are calling from a mobile and cannot speak, listen and press 55 when prompted.
What we do not do

No tracking, no casework through this site.

We do not intentionally use tracking cookies or analytics that identify you. We do not currently operate direct survivor casework through this website, so please do not send more sensitive personal information than is necessary. External services we link to, such as Stripe, Crowdfunder, Substack, YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Amazon and Microsoft Forms, have their own privacy practices.

Privacy notice

Information we collect

We collect information only where it is necessary to respond to an enquiry, to run our survey, or to work with professionals and partners. That usually means a name, an email address or phone number, and what you have chosen to tell us.

How we use and keep it

We use it to respond to you, to develop training, research and partnerships, and to meet our legal and safeguarding duties. We keep it only as long as needed for those purposes, then delete it securely.

When we may share it

We may share information where necessary to protect someone from serious harm, to meet safeguarding duties, or to comply with legal requirements. We do not sell information or share it for marketing.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you can

  • Ask what information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct or delete it
  • Object to how we use it
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk
